Known as "le Bâtard d'Orlèans," Jean Dunois, count of Longueville, was born in the château de l'Hay, the natural son of Louis, duke of Orléans. In 1418, he joined the Armagnacs in the civil war and was captured by the Burgundians. A companion in arms to joan of arc, he fought during the defense of Orléans and assisted in the victory at Patay (1429), contributing to the reconquest of Normandy and Guyenne (1448-53). He took part in the coronation of King charles vii, his half brother, whom, as part of the Praguerie, he later opposed. In 1465, Dunois joined the ligue de bien public against King louis xi (1465).
